    Testing Conversations

Tests answer specific clinical questionsnot every question.

A test can be valuable when it is chosen for the right person, the right question, and a clear plan for understanding and acting on the result.

    Start with the care conversation

A clinician may begin with history, symptoms, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, tobacco exposure, family history, and other factors. The appropriate next step depends on the person and the clinical question.

    CAC scoring

A coronary artery calcium scan can be discussed in selected prevention decisions. It is not a universal screening answer, and it does not replace a broader prevention conversation.

    CCTA with contrast

Coronary CT angiography with contrast is a diagnostic imaging test that may be appropriate for selected clinical questions. It involves benefits, limitations, risks, and follow-up considerations that must be evaluated by a qualified clinician.

    The distinction that matters

Finding plaque is not the same as preventing a heart attack. The value of testing depends on appropriate selection, accurate interpretation, treatment, adherence, and follow-up.

    Sources and limitations

Start with evidence. Keep the claims precise.

Legacy Heart Health Initiative is a cardiovascular health, prevention, and early-action program in development. This page is not medical advice and does not replace a qualified clinician. If you may be experiencing an emergency, contact local emergency services rather than using this site.
