    Volunteer

    We need people, and we
    need them to stay.

Four ways in, described by what they actually ask of you. Two of them are vetted roles with a real application; two of them are a message and a date.

    Ways in

    Start where you fit.

Nothing here is a waiting list. Each route ends with a person reading what you sent and writing back, and where a role requires clearance we say so before you apply rather than after.

    Mentor a young man

The Gentleman's Club pairs a boy with one adult across years, not weeks. It asks for a few hours a month and a willingness to still be there next year.

    What happens next

Every mentor is background-checked and trained before a first meeting, and one-to-one time is supervised. The application asks the questions that vetting requires, so it is longer than a contact form and deliberately so.

    Apply to mentor

    Give professional hours

The Creative Trust needs lawyers who will read a contract before an artist signs it, and the accountants, agents and executives who can tell an emerging artist what they are looking at.

    What happens next

The pro bono network takes your practice area and the kind of matter you can take, then sends work that fits. You decide on each matter; nothing is assigned to you.

Help at an event or a book drive

Book drives, outings, and gatherings need people for a day: sorting titles, staffing a table, riding along on a Seat Forward outing. No commitment beyond the date.

    What happens next

Tell us which borough or county you are in and roughly when you are free. Event volunteering that puts you with young people carries the same clearance as any other role, and we will say so before the date rather than on it.

    Offer a day

Lend a skill, or serve on the board

Curriculum review for Life Skills Learning, photography, translation, grant writing, governance. Board and committee service is a real commitment with real fiduciary duties, and we would rather say that first.

    What happens next

Write and say what you do. Skilled roles are matched to work that actually exists rather than kept on a list, so if there is nothing open in your area we will tell you that instead of filing you.

    Tell us what you do

    Before you apply

Any role with a young person is vetted.

Background checks, reference calls, training, and supervised contact are the precondition for working with the young people in our programs, not a formality applied afterwards. It takes time, and it is the part of the process we will not shorten for anyone, including people we know.

Roles that do not involve contact with young people are quicker. If you are unsure which yours is, ask before you start — write to info@supportlegacy.org and someone will tell you plainly.

    Already volunteering with us?

Record the hours you have already given. Once a coordinator confirms them, they appear in your supporter portal.
